Filib Schürmann makes obsessive ink drawings of his daily fears and thoughts. He draws all the time, even at night when he fills sketch books with little figures to fall asleep. Most of his drawings start out as unconscious doodles which the artist then examines and completes by giving shape to the thought or the figure that has started to materialize in its free-floating initial phase. Schürmann puts on paper whatever consciously or unconsciously crosses his mind without trying to control his output or his hand. By blending language and image, his sensitive diary-style drawings express existential fears or make funny comments on the ambiguities of life.
